firmware: move firmware loader into its own directory This will make it much easier to manage as we manage to keep trimming componnents down into their own files to more easily manage and maintain this codebase. firmware_loader: move CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER switch to Makefile The whole code of fallback_table.c is surrounded by #ifdef of CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER. Move the CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER switch to Makefile so that it is not compiled at all when this CONFIG option is disabled. I also removed the confusing comment, "Module or buit-in [sic]". CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER is a boolean option. (If it were a module, CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_MODULE would be defined instead.) firmware: Add new platform fallback mechanism and firmware_request_platform() In some cases the platform's main firmware (e.g. the UEFI fw) may contain an embedded copy of device firmware which needs to be (re)loaded into the peripheral. Normally such firmware would be part of linux-firmware, but in some cases this is not feasible, for 2 reasons: 1) The firmware is customized for a specific use-case of the chipset / use with a specific hardware model, so we cannot have a single firmware file for the chipset. E.g. touchscreen controller firmwares are compiled specifically for the hardware model they are used with, as they are calibrated for a specific model digitizer. 2) Despite repeated attempts we have failed to get permission to redistribute the firmware. This is especially a problem with customized firmwares, these get created by the chip vendor for a specific ODM and the copyright may partially belong with the ODM, so the chip vendor cannot give a blanket permission to distribute these. This commit adds a new platform fallback mechanism to the firmware loader which will try to lookup a device fw copy embedded in the platform's main firmware if direct filesystem lookup fails. Drivers which need such embedded fw copies can enable this fallback mechanism by using the new firmware_request_platform() function. Note that for now this is only supported on EFI platforms and even on these platforms firmware_fallback_platform() only works if CONFIG_EFI_EMBEDDED_FIRMWARE is enabled (this gets selected by drivers which need this), in all other cases firmware_fallback_platform() simply always returns -ENOENT. firmware_loader: Split sysfs support from fallback In preparation for sharing the "loading" and "data" sysfs nodes with the new firmware upload support, split out sysfs functionality from fallback.c and fallback.h into sysfs.c and sysfs.h. This includes the firmware class driver code that is associated with the sysfs files and the fw_fallback_config support for the timeout sysfs node. CONFIG_FW_LOADER_SYSFS is created and is selected by CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER in order to include sysfs.o in firmware_class-objs. This is mostly just a code reorganization. There are a few symbols that change in scope, and these can be identified by looking at the header file changes. A few white-space warnings from checkpatch are also addressed in this patch. firmware_loader: Add firmware-upload support Extend the firmware subsystem to support a persistent sysfs interface that userspace may use to initiate a firmware update. For example, FPGA based PCIe cards load firmware and FPGA images from local FLASH when the card boots. The images in FLASH may be updated with new images provided by the user at his/her convenience. A device driver may call firmware_upload_register() to expose persistent "loading" and "data" sysfs files. These files are used in the same way as the fallback sysfs "loading" and "data" files. When 0 is written to "loading" to complete the write of firmware data, the data is transferred to the lower-level driver using pre-registered call-back functions. The data transfer is done in the context of a kernel worker thread.
